H.P. Lovecraft is highly regarded as one of the greatest writers of the supernatural and horror genre and rightly so. I as a fan have been devouring his tales time and time again, wondering about the the scope and state of his mind and what it must have been like to be him. Many authors have tried to emulate him and many more will continue to do so until we are dust. His importance can never be forgotten and with this new collection from Victor Gollancz - his legend shines brightly once again.
This lovely leather bound edition gathers together all of HP Lovecraft's stories including the complete cycle of Cthulhu Mythos and more. I was delighted to discover there were some stories I had never come across before but obviously were always out there. This edition, compiled by Stephen Jones is beautifully crafted with a superlative biography after you've read all of the stories. The stories are excellently illustrated by Les Edwards and I don't think as a collection this could be bettered unless there are unseen Lovecraft stories that are unearthed!
There are 36 tales in all from my personal favourite Herbert West - Reanimator to the masterpieces that are The Call of Cthulhu and The Shadow over Innsmouth. All I can say is that everyone at VC should be proud that they got Stephen Jones to put this together, his work proves that he is at the top of his game. The meticulously detailed biography for its length has taught me more about Lovecraft than I've known or sourced before.
An excellent work and one that I'm very proud to have on my bookshelf.
